Spidey fans will have to wait a little longer—Tom Holland’s highly anticipated Spider-Man 4 has been delayed by a week. Originally set for release on July 24, 2026, the film will now hit theatres on July 31, 2026, according to an official announcement from Sony Pictures.
The movie will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. With this shift, Spider-Man 4 will now arrive two weeks after Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, another major 2026 release starring Holland.
Holland, who recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, confirmed that production begins in mid-2025. “Next summer, we start shooting. Everything’s good to go—we’re nearly there,” he shared enthusiastically.
This marks Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker, following Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). The last installment grossed over $1 billion globally, riding the momentum of Avengers: Endgame. The latter grossed over $1 billion globally, riding the wave of its release shortly after Avengers: Endgame. This new film seems to follow a similar pattern, as it is scheduled for release after Avengers: Doomsday.
Meanwhile, there has been no updates on the return of Jon Favreau and Jacob Batalon in the film. Marisa Tomei won’t return as her character Aunt May died in the previous movie. Nothing has been revealed about its plot.
Cretton has been deeply involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, co-creating the upcoming Wonder Man miniseries and working on a Shang-Chi sequel.
While Peter Parker is used to dodging villains, even his next adventure couldn’t escape a delay. But with filming set to start soon, Spidey’s return is officially on track.
