Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday intensified the Opposition's criticism of the Centre, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of avoiding accountability over allegations related to the management of donations and other matters concerning the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, as well as the police action against students protesting at Jantar Mantar. Kharge demanded discussions on both issues in Parliament, saying a debate was necessary for the facts to emerge.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha alleged that the Prime Minister and Home Minister were either "scared" to address the issues or were disrespecting Parliament by not responding to questions raised by the Opposition. His remarks came amid continued protests by Opposition members in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which have disrupted proceedings over the two issues. Kharge said serious allegations had emerged regarding the alleged misappropriation of valuable offerings, cash donations, land purchases, and administrative decisions linked to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. He argued that the matter was sensitive as it involved the faith of millions of devotees and required transparency.

"This is a matter of faith for millions of devotees. The formation of this trust was done by the central government, with the announcement made personally by Prime Minister Modi in the House," Kharge said in a post on social media platform X. He added that the government had transferred more than 70 acres of land to the trust and that the Prime Minister had been present at major events, including the land worship ceremony and the temple consecration programme. The Congress leader also raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha but said he was not allowed to speak on the matter. Opposition members have been demanding a detailed discussion in Parliament, arguing that issues involving public donations and religious institutions require accountability and open debate.

The controversy surrounding the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has become a major political issue, with Opposition parties seeking answers from the government over allegations raised against the trust's functioning. The trust has previously overseen the construction and management of the Ram Temple project in Ayodhya, which has attracted nationwide attention since its formation. Alongside the temple trust issue, Kharge also criticised the government's handling of student protests at Jantar Mantar. Opposition leaders have questioned the police response to demonstrations by students, alleging excessive action against young protesters. The Centre has maintained that law enforcement agencies acted according to established procedures to maintain public order.

The BJP-led government has not accepted the Opposition's allegations and has defended its actions on issues related to law enforcement and administration. Ruling party leaders have previously accused the Opposition of disrupting parliamentary proceedings instead of allowing legislative discussions to continue. The political confrontation is expected to continue as Parliament remains affected by protests from Opposition parties. While Kharge and other leaders are pressing for debates on the issues, the government and ruling party are likely to respond by defending their position and seeking to move legislative business forward.
