Oscar-winning actors Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser are set to return to the “Mummy” franchise, reprising their iconic roles as Egyptologist Evelyn O’Connell and adventurer Rick O’Connell in the fourth installment, scheduled for release on May 19, 2028. The announcement has reignited excitement among fans of the blockbuster series.
The upcoming film is a project of Universal Pictures and will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence. The screenplay has been penned by David Coggeshall, promising a fresh yet nostalgic narrative for audiences.
Weisz and Fraser first starred together in the 1999 reboot of “The Mummy,” which told the story of a treasure hunter who accidentally awakens a cursed Egyptian priest with supernatural powers. The 2001 sequel, “The Mummy Returns,” also became a major box office success, cementing their on-screen chemistry.
