Jennifer Aniston, beloved for her iconic role in FRIENDS, has opened up about her deeply personal struggles with infertility and her decision not to pursue adoption, shedding light on years of public speculation about her family plans. In a candid interview, the 56-year-old actress addressed the emotional toll of her fertility journey and the unfair labels of being “selfish” or a “workaholic” for not prioritizing motherhood.
In a Wondery+ early access episode of the Armchair Expert podcast, as reported by People, Aniston revealed the lengths she went to in her attempts to conceive. “I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it,” she told hosts Dax Shepard and Monica Padman. Reflecting on her experience, she expressed regret over not being advised to freeze her eggs earlier, stating, “I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favour.’ You just don’t think about it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed.”
Aniston also confronted the public scrutiny she faced, particularly the narrative that painted her as prioritizing her career over family. In a conversation with Harper’s Bazaar UK, she said, “They didn’t know my story or what I’d been going through over the past 20 years trying to pursue a family, because I don’t go out there and tell them my medical woes. That’s nobody’s business.” The constant speculation, she admitted, was “really hard” to endure.

Addressing her choice not to adopt, Aniston was clear about her desire to have a biological child. “I want my own DNA in a little person. That’s the only way, selfish or not, whatever that is, I’ve wanted it,” she explained on the podcast. Despite external pressures to consider adoption, her personal conviction guided her decision.
The actress became emotional when discussing the finality of her journey toward motherhood. “It just wasn’t in the plan, whatever the plan was,” she shared. “There’s a weird moment when they say ‘that’s it,’ because it is very emotional.” Aniston acknowledged that thoughts of parenthood occasionally surface but quickly fade, saying, “It would arise, but then it would pass within three seconds.”
Ultimately, Aniston has found peace with her circumstances, accepting that some things are beyond control. Her candid revelations offer a poignant glimpse into the challenges of infertility and the strength it takes to navigate public judgment while staying true to one’s personal journey.
