The grand launch of Reliance’s Swadesh flagship store in Mumbai on December 5 turned into a dazzling celebration of Indian handloom, with celebrities draping themselves in heritage sarees that stole the spotlight. From timeless Banarasi silks to delicate Chanderi and Kanjeevaram weaves, the red carpet became a living showcase of India’s textile legacy.
Nita Ambani led the charge in a breathtaking peacock-blue Banarasi saree designed by Manish Malhotra. The six-yard wonder, woven using the traditional kadhua technique, featured intricate meenakari work and zari borders that shimmered under the lights. Paired with a matching blouse and antique emerald-and-pearl diamond jewellery—including a century-old pair of statement earrings—the look was pure regal elegance.
Ananya Panday brought vibrant energy in a bright orange silk saree with subtle gold zari borders, keeping accessories minimal and letting the colour do the talking. Karisma Kapoor opted for understated glamour in an ivory chiffon saree with delicate silver embroidery, proving that less can indeed be more.

Madhuri Dixit Nene glowed in a classic red Kanjeevaram with gold zari temple borders, while Shanaya Kapoor chose a pastel mint-green Chanderi with hand-painted floral motifs. Sonali Bendre went the modern route with a pre-draped metallic saree-gown hybrid in champagne gold.
The evening wasn’t just about glamour—every drape carried a story of India’s master weavers and dying crafts, perfectly aligning with Swadesh’s mission to preserve and promote indigenous textiles. As Nita Ambani said at the event, “These are not just clothes; they are centuries of skill, passed down through generations.” In one glittering night, Bollywood ensured those stories reached millions.
