Nana Patekar had completed his shoot for Shakti Shalini before his death at the age of 75 at his Goa residence on Thursday morning, according to a report by Zoom. The actor had joined the production in May this year and was set to feature in the mythological horror-comedy, which stars Aneet Padda in the lead role. His work on the film had therefore been completed before his death, leaving the upcoming project among his final acting assignments.
Patekar is reportedly set to play an occultist or tantric in Shakti Shalini, a project being produced by Dinesh Vijan as part of Maddock Films' horror-comedy universe. The film is led by Aneet Padda, who was selected for the project after the makers decided to cast a newcomer in the lead role. The casting came after Padda's success in Saiyaara, following meetings with director Amar Kaushik and Vijan.
Shakti Shalini forms part of the expanding Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, which includes several interconnected projects. The film's announcement was attached to the release of Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma, which reached theatres in October 2025. Early reports have also linked Vishal Jethwa and Viineet Kumar Siingh to the project, although details about their respective roles were not provided in the supplied material.

Kaushik, who directed the Stree franchise, had previously described Shakti Shalini as the most important chapter in the horror-comedy universe. Speaking about Padda's casting, he said the team had been looking for a newcomer for the lead role and felt she was the right choice after meeting her and hearing her speak. The filmmaker said the decision was made jointly with Vijan after the team concluded that Padda was the right fit for the film.
Patekar's involvement in the project adds to the significance of the film as one of the productions he worked on before his death. The actor began filming his portion in May and had completed the shoot before he died. While the film's release details were not provided in the report, his role is expected to be part of the story built around the horror-comedy universe.
Patekar died at his Goa home early Thursday at the age of 75. His death came after he had completed his work on Shakti Shalini, allowing the production to retain his filmed contribution to the upcoming project. The film remains led by Padda and is being developed as part of Maddock Films' horror-comedy universe, with Kaushik involved in the creative team and Vijan producing the project.
