Actor Shahid Kapoor has revealed that filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga had once considered a crossover between Kabir Singh and Animal, briefly exploring the idea of bringing Shahid’s controversial character into Ranbir Kapoor’s 2023 blockbuster. While the plan never materialised, Shahid said the possibility was discussed seriously before being dropped due to practical and creative constraints.

Speaking in an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Shahid confirmed that Vanga had approached him during the making of Animal with the idea of featuring Kabir Singh in a scene. He explained that the director was keen on the concept, but scheduling conflicts and other issues prevented it from moving forward. Shahid described the situation as a genuine creative thought that ultimately “couldn’t happen” despite initial interest from both sides.

The actor added that he has not ruled out the possibility of a crossover in the future, stressing that the decision rests entirely with Vanga. According to Shahid, both Kabir Singh and the characters from Animal exist within the same creative universe shaped by the director, giving Vanga full control over whether the two worlds might ever intersect on screen.

Vanga has previously addressed why he eventually abandoned the idea, saying he did not want the crossover to feel forced or gimmicky. On a podcast, the director explained that Animal dealt with intense, realistic themes, and introducing Kabir Singh as a cameo could have diluted the gravity of crucial scenes, making the narrative feel less authentic.

Kabir Singh, released in 2019, was a major box-office success but drew heavy criticism for its portrayal of toxic masculinity and abusive relationships, with Shahid playing an aggressive, self-destructive surgeon opposite Kiara Advani. Animal, which hit theatres in December 2023, sparked similar debates over violence and masculinity but emerged as a blockbuster. Vanga is set to continue the franchise with Animal Park, keeping speculation alive about whether the long-discussed crossover could still happen someday.
