Actor Tamannaah Bhatia has dismissed reports claiming she is to be summoned by the Puducherry Police in connection with a Rs 2.4 crore cryptocurrency fraud case, calling them “fake and misleading.” She also warned of legal action against the circulation of such reports.
In an official statement, the 34-year-old actor said, “It has come to my attention that rumours are being circulated alleging my involvement and dealing with cryptocurrency. I’d like to request my friends in the media not to circulate any such fake, misleading, and false reports and rumours.” She added that her team is exploring legal options to address the situation.
Several reports on Friday suggested that both Tamannaah and actor Kajal Aggarwal could be questioned by the Puducherry Police regarding an alleged cryptocurrency fraud.
According to portal 123Telugu, a Puducherry resident named Ashokan filed a complaint alleging that a Coimbatore-based firm defrauded him and his 10 friends of Rs 2.4 crore. He claimed he was invited to the company’s launch event in 2022, which Tamannaah attended, and to a Mahabaleshwar event where Kajal was present. The reports suggested that the police were seeking clarifications from the actors. However, there has been no official confirmation from law enforcement authorities.
This isn’t the first time Tamannaah’s name has been linked to a crypto-related case. In October 2024, she was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of a probe into the HPZ Token scam, which allegedly defrauded investors under the pretext of cryptocurrency mining.
Tamannah had reportedly received some funds for making a "celebrity appearance" at an event of the app company and she had recorded her statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act at its zonal office.
