The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted an ‘A’ certificate to the upcoming film Cocktail 2, just days ahead of its theatrical release on June 19. Directed by Homi Adajania, the film stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles and serves as a spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit romantic comedy Cocktail.
The certification marks a notable milestone for the cast, particularly Kriti, for whom this is the first adult-rated film of her career. Known for her work in family-oriented and mainstream commercial films, including Heropanti, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Mimi, this project represents a shift in screen space for the actor as she explores a more mature narrative.
For Rashmika, Cocktail 2 becomes her second Hindi film to receive an ‘A’ certificate after Animal, which was released in 2023 and achieved major box-office success. Shahid, meanwhile, continues his long association with adult-rated cinema, with this film marking his fifth ‘A’ certified project, following titles such as Kaminey, Udta Punjab, and Kabir Singh.

According to reports, the film has a runtime of approximately 150 minutes, making it slightly longer than the original Cocktail, which ran for 146 minutes. The sequel retains the creative team of director Homi Adajania and producer Dinesh Vijan but introduces a completely new storyline and cast while maintaining thematic links to the original film’s exploration of modern relationships.
At a recent promotional event, director Homi Adajania addressed speculation about the film’s narrative, clarifying that while informal discussions on set led to creative “what-if” ideas, the final storyline remains distinct and does not focus on the rumours circulating online. He emphasised that the film’s core revolves around a complex emotional dynamic involving a love triangle.
Cocktail 2 is scheduled for release in cinemas on June 19 and is expected to draw attention for its cast, certification, and its connection to the popular 2012 original, which remains well-regarded for its music and contemporary take on relationships.
