Vicky Kaushal is celebrating a career milestone as Chhaava becomes his highest-grossing film, surpassing the lifetime earnings of Uri: The Surgical Strike. On its eighth day, the film crossed the Rs 325 crore mark globally, bringing its total to Rs 343 crore, edging past Uri’s Rs 342 crore haul.
Apart from being a standout hit for Kaushal, the movie has also finally set the cash registers ringing for the Bollywood Box Office as the film is the first blockbuster hit of 2025. It comes as a respite to Bollywood which has been in a rut since November 2024 when the last major hit before Chaaava, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyya 3’ came out.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Chhaava collected Rs 24 crore nett in India on Friday, pushing its domestic total to Rs 249 crore, overtaking Uri’s Rs 244 crore. The film has also performed impressively overseas, amassing $5.3 million in eight days. With its worldwide total at Rs 343 crore, Chhaava now stands as Vicky Kaushal’s biggest box office success.
The film shows no signs of slowing down, enjoying a strong second weekend after a stellar opening week. If its momentum continues through Sunday, Chhaava could cross the Rs 500-crore mark by its third weekend, cementing its status as a blockbuster.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava is a biopic of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Vicky Kaushal in the lead. Akshaye Khanna portrays Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, while Rashmika Mandanna, Divya Dutta, and Diana Penty play key supporting roles. The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics but has been widely appreciated by audiences.
