Former Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu has praised Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul for his aggressive approach against elite spinners, particularly highlighting his intent against Kolkata Knight Riders’ Sunil Narine during the IPL 2026 season. Rayudu’s remarks came after Rahul’s standout performances with the bat in a campaign that once again showcased his versatility across phases of the innings. KL Rahul concluded IPL 2026 with 593 runs from 14 matches at an impressive strike rate of 174.41. One of his most notable innings came against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, where he struck a fluent 30-ball 60, playing a central role in Delhi Capitals’ victory.
Despite his strong individual season, Delhi Capitals finished sixth on the points table, narrowly missing out on a playoff berth. Rayudu, speaking on a cricket broadcast discussion, said Rahul has consistently proven his value across franchises and formats within the IPL. He particularly emphasised Rahul’s ability to take on high-impact bowlers, noting that his approach against spin threats such as Narine stood out during the season. According to Rayudu, Rahul’s clean striking and calculated aggression allowed him to neutralise key match-up overs that typically control the flow of T20 games.
He added that Rahul’s batting against spin was among the most decisive factors in Delhi Capitals’ middle-order stability. The ability to attack bowlers like Narine, who has long been regarded as one of the most difficult spinners in the league, shifted momentum in crucial phases of games. Rayudu further stated that Rahul’s confidence in taking on top-quality bowlers reflects his class and maturity as a T20 batter. Former Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher also weighed in on Rahul’s impact, noting that his intent during the middle overs was a key reason Delhi Capitals remained competitive in several matches. Boucher highlighted that teams like KKR often rely heavily on their spin attack after the powerplay, but Rahul’s aggressive approach disrupted those plans and prevented them from dictating terms.

Boucher explained that Rahul’s ability to counter spin early in the middle overs reduced the effectiveness of Kolkata’s key bowlers, including Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. This, he said, helped shift the economy pressure back onto the bowling side and gave Delhi Capitals a better scoring foundation in the latter stages of their innings. Despite praising Rahul’s individual performances, Boucher noted that Delhi Capitals’ overall season reflected missed opportunities. He suggested that the team remained in playoff contention until late in the campaign but fell short due to inconsistent results, adding that a couple of additional wins could have changed their standings significantly.
Rayudu echoed similar sentiments, stating that Delhi Capitals possessed a strong and experienced squad featuring players like Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and David Miller. He argued that the team had enough firepower to finish in the top two and compete for the title, but lacked consistency over the course of the season. Both analysts agreed that while Rahul’s performances were a major positive, Delhi Capitals will need better overall cohesion and decision-making in future seasons if they are to convert individual brilliance into championship success.
