A young man who allegedly posed as a Brigadier in the Indian Army was arrested in Uttar Pradesh after a carefully planned sting operation by military authorities. The accused, identified as Verma, was detained at a public event where he arrived dressed in a Brigadier's ceremonial uniform and accompanied by two men acting as security personnel.
During the arrest, officials recovered several items used to support his fake identity, including a forged military identity card, a fake air pistol, a ceremonial peak cap, Army Medical Corps insignia, a stethoscope, forged visiting cards, multiple ATM cards, and an identity card carrying a fake seal of the Armed Forces Medical College. Authorities said these items were allegedly used to convince people that he was both a senior Army officer and a medical professional.
According to investigators, Verma admitted during questioning that he had long dreamed of becoming a doctor in the Armed Forces Medical Services. However, after failing to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test multiple times, he allegedly told his family that he had been selected. To maintain the deception, he reportedly acquired a custom-made Brigadier's uniform and modified his vehicle to resemble that of a senior military officer.

Military officials had reportedly been monitoring his activities for nearly two months after receiving information about a suspiciously young officer frequently moving around the sensitive Shahjahanpur Cantonment area. To verify his identity, Colonel JS Jaglan and local veterans coordinated a sting operation. They invited him to attend a student motivation programme as the chief guest, knowing that he would likely accept the prestigious role.
The plan succeeded when Verma arrived at the venue in full uniform with two paid bodyguards posing as NSG commandos. Army personnel immediately detained him and his associates. Officials described the operation as an example of effective coordination between serving military authorities and veterans, adding that the investigation is continuing to determine whether the accused used the fake identity for financial or other personal gains.
