A 35-year-old employee of the Indian Navy was arrested on Monday for allegedly murdering a 31-year-old woman and attempting to destroy evidence in a gruesome case reported from Visakhapatnam. According to police, the accused confessed to killing the woman, dismembering her body, and storing parts of it in a refrigerator at his residence. The case has sent shockwaves across the city due to the disturbing nature of the crime.
Police officials said the incident took place on Sunday in the Gajuwaka area and came to light the following morning when the accused surrendered. Authorities identified the victim as Polipalli Mounika, a bank employee, while the accused, Chintada Ravindra, worked as a technician at INS Dega. Investigators stated that after committing the crime, the accused attempted to conceal evidence by disposing of body parts in different ways.
According to the police, the accused dismembered the body using a knife, severing the head, hands, and legs. Some parts were wrapped in polythene bags and stored in a refrigerator, while others were allegedly burnt in an attempt to eliminate traces of the crime. The methodical nature of the act has raised serious concerns among law enforcement authorities, who are continuing their investigation into the sequence of events.

Officials revealed that the accused and the victim had been in a relationship since 2021 after meeting through a dating application. Despite getting married in 2024, Ravindra reportedly continued the relationship with Mounika. Police said the two reconnected recently when his wife had gone to her parental home for delivery, leading to renewed interaction between them.
Gajuwaka Assistant Superintendent of Police V Srinivasa Rao stated that tensions developed between the two in recent weeks. Investigators believe that these differences escalated, ultimately leading the accused to plan the murder. The police are currently examining call records, digital evidence, and other materials to establish a clear timeline and motive behind the crime.
The accused remains in police custody as further investigation is underway. Authorities are also exploring additional angles, including whether the crime was premeditated and if there were any accomplices involved. The case has once again highlighted concerns around violent crimes and the need for stronger vigilance and timely intervention in cases involving personal disputes.
