Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol Thirumavalavan on Tuesday announced that he will not contest the by-election to the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency and also ruled out accepting any ministerial position in a potential TVK-led government, putting an end to speculation over his political future.
In a video statement, Thirumavalavan said he would stay away from all by-election contests and clarified that he was not seeking any ministerial post despite reports suggesting he had been offered a Cabinet position if elected. He added that his decision was final and not open to reconsideration.
He said he had been approached with an offer to contest the vacant seat, which reportedly came with the possibility of a ministerial role upon victory. However, he said he declined the proposal and expressed gratitude for the offer extended to him, while reiterating that he would not participate in any bypolls going forward.

Thirumavalavan also addressed ongoing political speculation, asserting that his decision was not driven by expectations of office or power. He stressed that he could contribute to public service and political work without holding an elected legislative position or ministerial post.
The VCK leader noted that his party, along with Left parties and the IUML, had extended support to the TVK in post-poll arrangements aimed at forming a government, while the Congress had also entered into a separate understanding with the ruling alliance. He said these alignments were made after consultations with DMK president M. K. Stalin to prevent President’s Rule in the state.
Recalling his earlier political criticism of TVK leadership during the election campaign, Thirumavalavan said his current stance was shaped by broader considerations of alliance stability and political responsibility. He urged party cadres and the public not to give weight to speculation regarding his participation in future by-elections.
