Five members of a family have been booked for allegedly assaulting a woman and her newlywed daughter-in-law in the Oonj area of the district, police said on Tuesday. The incident, which took place at Meena Bazar on Thursday evening, has sparked concern over safety and law enforcement response in the region. Authorities confirmed that an FIR has been registered and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accused.
According to the police complaint, the accused — identified as Savitri; her son Anuj; and her daughters Aradhana, Kanchan, and Aarti — allegedly entered the residence of their relative Ramesh Chandra Bind and attacked his family members. The victims have been identified as Israwati Devi and her daughter-in-law Pushpa, who were reportedly subjected to physical assault during the incident.
The complaint further alleges that during the attack, Anuj pulled the saree of the younger woman and behaved in an obscene manner, escalating the seriousness of the offence. The situation was brought under control only after neighbours intervened upon hearing the commotion and rescued the victims from further harm. The victims later recounted the incident in detail to authorities.

Based on Israwati Devi’s complaint, a First Information Report was formally lodged against all five accused late on Monday evening. The complainants alleged that they had initially approached the local police station but were turned away without action, prompting them to escalate the matter to higher authorities for intervention.
Following their appeal, Superintendent of Police Abhinav Tyagi took cognisance of the case and directed officials to register the FIR and initiate an investigation. Police officials stated that preliminary findings suggest the assault stemmed from a long-standing dispute between the two families, though further inquiry is underway to establish the full sequence of events.
Authorities confirmed that all five accused are currently absconding, and multiple teams have been deployed to trace and arrest them. Police have assured that strict action will be taken in accordance with the law while also emphasising the need for prompt reporting and response in cases involving violence and harassment.
