Police in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh are investigating a deeply troubling case after a 42‑year‑old astrologer allegedly died by suicide, with the body of his elderly mother discovered in their home days earlier. The incident has raised serious questions about family distress, financial strain and possible personal relationships that may have contributed to the tragedy.
On Thursday afternoon, emergency services were alerted to a male body at the base of a residential tower in the Mahagunpuram Society’s Vinayak Tower. The man, later identified by police as Rajveer Chawla, reportedly jumped from the 13th floor of the building and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
When investigators entered Chawla’s flat on the ground floor, they made the grisly discovery of his mother’s body, later identified as 70‑year‑old Satnam Kaur. Police officials say her body showed signs of having been there for two to three days before Chawla’s death, though no clear cause of her death has yet been determined. Both bodies have been sent for post‑mortem examinations to establish the timeline and cause of death.

Preliminary police statements indicate that Chawla, who supported himself through astrology and online content creation, had been experiencing financial difficulties and personal setbacks. Neighbours and local sources told authorities that he had not been actively working in recent months and had been separated from his wife and child, living with his mother at the Mahagunpuram address.
The absence of a suicide note has left investigators exploring multiple theories, including whether Kaur’s death occurred naturally, was linked to family conflict, or was followed by Chawla’s suicide as an act of despair. Police are conducting forensic analysis, digital device examinations and interviews with relatives to piece together the circumstances that led to the dual fatalities.
Local law enforcement has appealed for community cooperation and urged anyone with information to come forward, as the case highlights broader concerns about mental health, economic stress, and the complex dynamics of family relationships that can sometimes go unnoticed until it is too late.
