Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed strong confidence on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure a decisive victory in the Silchar Assembly constituency in southern Assam. Speaking at a rally held at Kirtania Ground on Satsang Ashram Road, Saha predicted that BJP candidate Rajdeep Roy is poised to win by a “huge margin” in the upcoming elections.
Addressing party supporters, Saha criticised the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), describing it as a “corrupt government,” and contrasted it with the BJP-led administration at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “People have faith and trust in the Prime Minister. Under his leadership, the country is moving forward on the path of development,” he said, highlighting the party’s focus on governance and transparency.
Saha recalled the BJP’s political trajectory in Tripura, noting that the party ended “35 years of misrule” by the Left Front, with the turning point coming in 2014 when Modi became Prime Minister. He drew parallels to Assam, suggesting that similar political momentum is now taking shape in the state. He also emphasised the importance of upcoming elections to the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) and the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election in North Tripura, calling them critical for regional political developments.

The Chief Minister highlighted the cultural and social links between Silchar and Tripura, saying, “Coming to Silchar feels like coming to Agartala. Many people here share close ties with Tripura.” He added that senior BJP leaders, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, are expected to campaign in the constituency.
Criticising previous governments, Saha said that before 2014, the country faced uncertainty and security challenges, and alleged corruption under Congress and UPA rule at both the Centre and in Assam. He praised the current administration for emphasising good governance and transparency, linking it to the party’s performance in the region.
Saha also underscored the strategic and economic significance of India’s Northeast, referencing the Prime Minister’s description of the region as “Ashtalakshmi” and the role of the Act East Policy in promoting regional development. The rally was attended by several BJP leaders, including Silchar MP Parimal Shukla Baidya, MLAs Dipayan Chakraborty and Nihar Kanti Das, and former district president Bimalendu Roy. Rajdeep Roy, a former Lok Sabha member, is contesting the Silchar seat after replacing sitting MLA Dipayan Chakraborty.
