Five people were killed and the suspected gunman also died following shootings at multiple locations in Michigan on Friday, according to police. Authorities launched an extensive search involving two homes and a wooded area after responding to an initial report of a shooting in Missaukee County, about 169 miles northwest of Detroit.

Michigan State Police said officers were called to a home shortly before noon and found three people dead and another person critically injured. The wounded individual was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, who had reportedly fled the residence before law enforcement arrived.

As authorities began a large-scale search for Hickman, they located a fourth deceased person at another home, according to officials. Police issued a public warning on social media, describing Hickman as armed and dangerous and urging residents not to approach him while officers continued their search.

Investigators later located Hickman's vehicle in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake. Police subsequently found Hickman dead, along with another deceased individual in the area. Authorities have not provided details on how each of the victims died or clarified whether the people involved were related to one another.

Lt. Ashley Miller described the incident as a difficult situation for both the community and investigators. She said law enforcement remained committed to conducting a thorough investigation and would provide additional information as it becomes available. Police have also urged members of the public to avoid the affected area while the investigation continues.

Authorities have not yet released the names or ages of the people who died, pending notification of their families. The circumstances surrounding the multiple deaths remain under investigation, and police have not disclosed a possible motive or provided further details about the relationship between the victims and the suspect.
