Rajasthan is gearing up to host the inaugural Tour de Thar, a prestigious international endurance cycling event scheduled for November 23, 2025, in Bikaner. Announced by the Union Sports Ministry, the event will feature three grueling categories—300 km Relay, 200 km, and 100 km—designed to test participants’ stamina, strength, and mental resilience. With over 2,500 national and international cyclists, including professional riders, set to compete along the scenic Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway, the race promises to transform the Thar Desert into a global stage for courage and determination.
The Tour de Thar was unveiled at a curtain-raiser event in Delhi, graced by Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal and Union Minister for Labour, Employment, Youth Affairs, and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. The ministry highlighted the event’s unique blend of athletic rigor and Rajasthan’s cultural heritage, positioning it as more than just a race. “The Tour de Thar will showcase the spirit of the desert while promoting Rajasthan’s tourism potential,” the ministry stated, noting that the event will feature local music performances, traditional dances, and handicraft exhibitions along the route to create an immersive desert festival experience for spectators.
Starting at Norangdesar village in Bikaner, the race will traverse the expansive Thar Desert, offering participants and visitors a chance to engage with Rajasthan’s rich cultural tapestry. The event is expected to draw significant attention to the state’s tourism sector, spotlighting its vibrant traditions and landscapes. By integrating cultural showcases with high-octane competition, the Tour de Thar aims to position Rajasthan as a hub for international sports tourism.
