Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin launched Chennai One, India’s first integrated public transport ticketing mobile application, on Monday, marking a significant step toward seamless urban mobility. Developed by the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA), the app unifies ticketing for Chennai Metro, MTC buses, and Namma Yatri autos and cabs, with plans to include MRTS and suburban trains soon, according to a CUMTA statement.
The Chennai One app, available on iOS and Android, introduces a single QR-based ticketing system, eliminating the need for multiple tickets or apps and reducing long queues at ticket counters. “No more confusion. Just one city, one ticket, one app,” CUMTA posted on X, emphasising the app’s role in enabling hassle-free travel across Chennai’s public transport network. The platform also offers journey planning features, enhancing commuter convenience.
This pioneering initiative, informed by a CUMTA study on integrated ticketing and journey planning, aims to streamline commuting in Chennai, a city of over 8 million. By integrating diverse transport modes, the app is expected to boost public transport usage and reduce urban congestion. The launch aligns with Tamil Nadu’s broader vision for sustainable, technology-driven urban transport solutions.
