Suspended Trinamool Congress spokesperson Riju Dutta has launched a sharp attack on his former party after being removed from its ranks for six years over alleged anti-party remarks. Dutta, who was among three spokespersons suspended by the All India Trinamool Congress, alleged that corruption had become deeply entrenched within the party’s functioning and accused the leadership of failing to address internal concerns.
Speaking to reporters a day after his suspension, Dutta questioned the political atmosphere in West Bengal following the opposition’s electoral gains, asking why citizens now felt “free to express themselves without fear.” He claimed that the party had failed to reflect on its shortcomings and suggested that public frustration was growing due to unaddressed governance issues.
Dutta made serious allegations of widespread corruption in civic processes, claiming that payments were routinely demanded for basic administrative services. He alleged that everything from home infrastructure approvals to building plan clearances involved unofficial payments, adding that ordinary citizens had little access to corruption-free governance under the party’s rule.

He also referred to the high-profile school recruitment controversy in West Bengal, often described as a “job scam,” stating that allegations of job irregularities should have been treated with greater seriousness. According to him, attempts to raise such concerns within internal party forums were ignored, leaving him without a platform to voice dissenting opinions.
The suspended leader further claimed that he had been targeted despite years of service within the organisation. He stated that he had spent over a decade in the party and had risen through grassroots work rather than privilege, while accusing the leadership of taking disciplinary action against him for “speaking the truth.” Dutta also alleged procedural unfairness, claiming that the decision to suspend him may have been prepared before his formal response was reviewed.
The All India Trinamool Congress has maintained that the suspensions were issued following violations of party discipline, particularly after some spokespersons publicly criticised leadership decisions following the state’s electoral defeat. Party sources have indicated that responses to the allegations will be issued at an appropriate time, while questioning the timing of Dutta’s public statements after the elections.
