The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next four days. The weather system is expected to bring intermittent relief from heat, even as rising temperatures continue to affect large parts of the region. Officials have advised residents to remain alert to rapidly changing weather conditions.
According to the forecast, scattered areas across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to experience moderate rain with thunderstorm activity from Wednesday through May 30. The department has also indicated the possibility of strong surface winds in isolated locations during this period. These conditions are attributed to shifting atmospheric patterns over the southern peninsular region.
The weather activity is expected to continue intermittently on May 31 and June 1, with light to moderate rainfall likely at one or two places. However, meteorological officials have cautioned that the rainfall will not be widespread or continuous. Instead, it is likely to occur in patches, offering only temporary respite from prevailing hot conditions.

Despite the expected rain, temperatures are projected to remain above normal across several districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The maximum temperature may rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius over the next four days, intensifying hot and humid conditions. Coastal regions are expected to be particularly affected due to higher moisture levels in the air.
In Chennai, temperatures are likely to hover around 41 degrees Celsius, with high humidity adding to discomfort levels throughout the day. Health authorities have issued advisories urging residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours. People have also been encouraged to wear light clothing and ensure adequate ventilation in homes and workplaces.
Officials have warned that insufficient fluid intake in such conditions may lead to dehydration and other heat-related health complications. The meteorological department said it will continue to monitor evolving weather patterns closely and issue updated warnings if necessary. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as the combination of heat and thunderstorms continues over the coming days.
