Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra unleashed a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government on Sunday, alleging that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionaries are embedded within the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and other ministries, effectively dictating government decisions.
Speaking at a “Save the Constitution” rally in Chomu, near Jaipur, Dotasra accused the BJP of replicating the “Gujarat Model” by installing a “weak” Chief Minister and MLAs as ministers, allowing bureaucrats and RSS operatives to run a “corrupt government.”
“This is the real Gujarat Model: make the weakest person the chief minister, the weakest MLAs ministers, and then use bureaucrats to run a corrupt government,” Dotasra declared, as reported by PTI. He further claimed that elected representatives, regardless of party affiliation, are sidelined, with public interest projects stalled unless they align with directives from RSS functionaries stationed in the CMO and ministerial offices. “The government only acts on the directions of the RSS,” he asserted, pointing to a systemic override of democratic processes.

The Congress leader’s reference to the “Gujarat Model”—a term often associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure as Gujarat CM—suggests a centralized control mechanism driven by RSS ideology, a charge the BJP has historically dismissed. In 2021, Dotasra similarly accused an RSS leader, Nimba Ram, of hiding after a corruption case involving a ₹20-crore commission, a claim the RSS condemned as an attempt to defame it.
The BJP, led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, has not directly responded to these latest accusations. However, past rebuttals, such as those following a 2024 controversy over RSS leaders’ pictures in ministers’ offices, saw the party defending its ideological ties while accusing Congress of divisive politics. Critics on X, like @RajPolWatch, argue Dotasra’s claims lack evidence and are a tactic to rally Congress’s base ahead of local elections, while supporters, including @INCRajasthan, hail his remarks as exposing “RSS’s shadow rule.”
The RSS, the ideological parent of the BJP, has long faced accusations of influencing governance, with historical examples like its role in the Janata Party government (1977-79) and pracharaks like Narendra Modi rising to prominence. Yet, Dotasra’s specific charge of RSS functionaries operating within the CMO remains unverified, with no named individuals or concrete instances provided in his speech. This lack of specificity fuels skepticism, as the BJP could counter that such claims are politically motivated exaggerations.
As Rajasthan gears up for the 2026 Assembly polls, Dotasra’s allegations intensify the Congress-BJP rivalry, tapping into broader debates about the RSS’s influence over elected governments. Whether these claims gain traction or fizzle out may depend on the Congress’s ability to substantiate them with evidence, amidst a polarized political climate where such accusations are both potent and divisive.
