A devastating explosion tore through a fireworks manufacturing unit in Naranapuram, Sivakasi, claiming the lives of three workers and leaving three others injured on Monday afternoon. The blast, triggered by chemical friction around 3:50 pm, sent shockwaves through the private facility where workers were crafting crackers.
Police and fire rescue teams rushed to the scene, extinguishing the blaze and ensuring the injured were swiftly transported to Sivakasi Government Hospital for treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation and registered a case to uncover the cause of the deadly incident.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed profound grief, stating, “I am deeply shocked and pained by this tragedy. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families.” To support the victims, Stalin announced financial aid: Rs 4 lakh for each deceased worker’s family, Rs 1 lakh for those seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries receiving hospital care.
