A security alert was sounded in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district on Friday after a suspicious SUV allegedly breached a police checkpoint and fled towards the Nashri area, prompting a large-scale search operation by security forces. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning and led to the deployment of personnel from the district police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Army as authorities attempted to trace the occupants of the vehicle.
According to officials, the incident took place around 3:30 am at a security check post in the Chanderkote area. The SUV, identified as a Scorpio, was travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu when police personnel signalled the driver to stop for verification. However, the driver allegedly ignored repeated instructions and accelerated away from the checkpoint, raising concerns among security personnel. Officials said police personnel fired three warning shots in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the SUV continued towards the Nashri area.
Following the breach, security agencies immediately launched a coordinated operation to track the vehicle and identify the people inside it. Checkpoints were strengthened in the area as forces carried out searches along possible routes taken by the vehicle. Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Gupta reached the spot and supervised the security operation. During the search, the suspicious vehicle was later intercepted and seized near the Dalwas area, officials said.

However, the occupants reportedly managed to escape from the spot before security personnel could detain them. A massive manhunt has been launched to locate the individuals who fled after abandoning the vehicle. Security agencies are examining available evidence and conducting further investigations to determine the identity of the occupants and the circumstances behind the checkpoint breach. Officials have not yet revealed whether any suspicious material was recovered from the vehicle.
The incident comes amid heightened security measures in Jammu and Kashmir, where security forces regularly conduct vehicle checks and surveillance operations to prevent potential threats. Authorities are continuing their investigation and have intensified searches across the area to trace the absconding occupants. Further details are expected once the probe progresses and security agencies establish more information about the incident.
