The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the operation of three pairs of special trains during the Christmas and New Year-2026 period to meet the surge in passenger demand during the festive season. The move aims to provide convenient travel options for holidaymakers across the region.
The festive special trains include the Guwahati–Sairang (Mizoram)–Guwahati, Dibrugarh–Lucknow–Dibrugarh, and New Delhi–Kamakhya–New Delhi routes. NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said these services will significantly ease travel for passengers visiting family and friends during the holiday period.
The Guwahati–Sairang–Guwahati Christmas special will run two trips from each direction. It will depart from Guwahati on December 22 and 24, 2025, while the return Sairang–Guwahati train will operate on December 23 and 25. The train composition includes two AC 3-Tier, two General Second Class, eight Sleeper class, and two luggage-cum-brake van coaches.

Passengers are advised to check detailed train timings and stoppages on the IRCTC website and NFR’s official social media channels. The CPRO emphasized verifying travel details prior to the journey to avoid inconveniences, especially during the busy holiday season.
In addition to new train services, NFR has upgraded station facilities at Guwahati Railway Station under the Lumding Division. The retiring rooms and dormitory have been modernized with fully air-conditioned units, comfortable beds, and improved interiors to enhance passenger comfort.
The upgraded accommodation includes nine retiring rooms—seven two-bedded and two five-bedded rooms—and a 12-bedded dormitory. The initiative reflects NFR’s commitment to providing a safe, hygienic, and convenient environment for travelers, ensuring a pleasant transit experience during festive travel peaks.
