Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s 56th birthday on Friday was marked by a series of celebrations and symbolic gestures by party workers and supporters across the national capital, with gatherings held at party offices and along the banks of the Ganga. The day was filled with greetings, posters, and public demonstrations of support from various Congress groups.
At Indira Bhawan in New Delhi, party workers put up large posters extending birthday wishes to the senior Congress leader. The displays highlighted Gandhi’s political image and leadership role within the party, as supporters gathered to mark the occasion. Similar celebrations were organised at Congress offices and supporter hubs, where workers exchanged greetings and participated in small-scale events.
One of the more notable expressions of celebration came from youth Congress workers, who performed a “dugdhabhishek” ritual by pouring milk over a photograph of Rahul Gandhi on the banks of the Ganga. The symbolic act was accompanied by chants and slogans in his support. The poster used during the event depicted Gandhi holding Lord Parshuram’s axe in one hand and the Constitution of India in the other, reflecting themes often associated with his political messaging.

Meanwhile, at 24 Akbar Road in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi met with supporters who had gathered to wish him personally. Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot also visited the venue and extended his greetings. Speaking to reporters, Pilot said that Gandhi continues to be a source of hope for many young people and that his leadership resonates strongly with sections of the youth. He also expressed confidence in Gandhi’s ongoing political efforts and struggle.
The celebrations come at a time when the Congress party is attempting to strengthen its organisational presence and reconnect with its grassroots base. Party workers across several states marked the occasion with similar events, reflecting Gandhi’s continued significance within the organisation despite electoral challenges in recent years.
While the celebrations were largely symbolic and centred around party supporters, they underscored Rahul Gandhi’s continued prominence in national politics. As messages of support and birthday wishes continued to pour in throughout the day, the Congress leadership used the occasion to project unity and reaffirm its political messaging ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
