Qatar on Monday rejected reports claiming it had offered Iran $12 billion to help secure a breakthrough agreement aimed at ending the prolonged tensions and conflict involving the United States and Iran. Qatari officials described the allegations as false and accused unnamed parties of attempting to undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts in the region.
Majed Al Ansari, adviser to the prime minister and official spokesperson for Qatar’s foreign ministry, dismissed the reports in a statement posted on X. He described the claims as “utterly baseless” and said they were being circulated by actors seeking to derail negotiations and damage diplomatic initiatives focused on reducing tensions in the Middle East.
Al Ansari said Qatar’s role in regional mediation and diplomacy was already well known and publicly documented. He added that the allegations represented attempts to tarnish the country’s reputation as a trusted international peace facilitator. Qatar has frequently played a mediating role in regional and international disputes, including negotiations involving the United States, Iran and other Gulf nations.

The denial comes at a time of heightened diplomatic engagement involving Iran, the United States, Pakistan and several Gulf states. Reports have suggested that discussions are underway to establish a broader framework agreement after months of instability and conflict across the Middle East.
The controversy surrounding the alleged payment appears connected to ongoing discussions over frozen Iranian assets held abroad, including funds located in Qatar. These financial assets have remained a sensitive issue in negotiations between Tehran and Western countries, particularly in talks linked to sanctions relief, regional security and broader diplomatic normalisation efforts.
While no official details of any potential agreement have been confirmed publicly, diplomatic activity in the region has intensified in recent months amid efforts to prevent further escalation. Qatar has continued positioning itself as a key mediator in regional disputes, while officials insist that misinformation and unverified reports risk complicating already fragile negotiations.
