Veteran actor Hema Malini has shared a deeply emotional note after accepting the posthumous Padma Vibhushan on behalf of her late husband Dharmendra at a ceremonial event held in New Delhi on May 25. In her Instagram message, she described the moment as “euphoric,” saying she felt an overwhelming sense of his presence beside her while receiving the honour.
Hema Malini wrote that as she walked up to the dais to accept the award, she felt as though Dharmendra was guiding her hand and accompanying her through the moment. She said the experience was deeply personal and emotionally intense, adding that the atmosphere of the Padma Awards ceremony heightened her sense of connection with her late husband. The ceremony, held in the presence of the President of India, honoured several distinguished personalities for their contributions across various fields.
Recalling the occasion further, she said she was filled with pride while representing Dharmendra at one of the country’s highest civilian honours. She noted that sitting at the ceremony brought back a flood of memories from their long association, both on and off screen. The veteran actor reflected on how their journey began as co-stars in several successful films and later evolved into a lifelong partnership.

She further added that Dharmendra was a “generous, giving, good human being” who was recognised and loved by all who knew him. Hema Malini also acknowledged the immense support of fans over the decades, stating that she accepted the award on behalf of their entire family, as well as millions of admirers who continue to cherish his work and legacy in Indian cinema.
Expressing gratitude, she said she felt thankful to the Almighty for having shared her life with a soul mate whose memories she will cherish forever. She described the moment of receiving the Padma Vibhushan as overwhelming and said it brought out a mix of pride, emotion and remembrance that she would carry for the rest of her life.
