Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked his 75th birthday on Wednesday, prompting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to launch a 16-day "Sewa Pakhwada" campaign, running until October 2, to honor its influential leader. The initiative, spanning BJP-ruled states and the central government, features a range of public outreach programs, including health camps, cleanliness drives, intellectual gatherings, and fairs promoting indigenous products. Modi, the third longest-serving prime minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, is in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar today to launch a nationwide campaign focused on women’s and children’s health and nutrition, alongside development projects targeting tribal communities.
The BJP, under Modi’s leadership since 2014, has transformed into India’s dominant political force, surpassing the Congress party in electoral success and geographical reach. Despite a setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the party fell short of a majority, Modi steered the BJP to recent victories in state elections in Haryana and Maharashtra. Prominent leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, praised Modi’s visionary leadership, crediting him with enhancing India’s global standing and prioritizing welfare for the poor. BJP president J.P. Nadda highlighted Modi’s transformative steps toward a self-reliant and developed India, emphasizing the global recognition of the country’s cultural heritage under his tenure.
In Kolkata, the BJP is hosting a five-day exhibition at the historic Indian Museum, starting September 17, to showcase Modi’s life and achievements. The display traces his journey from a tea vendor to a key administrator, first as Gujarat’s chief minister in 2001 and later as prime minister. Senior BJP leader Locket Chatterjee noted that the exhibition, inaugurated by Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya, will feature photographs and narratives of Modi’s early life, spiritual influences, and rise as a globally recognized leader. The Indian Museum, established in 1814 and managed by the Union Ministry of Culture, is one of the oldest and largest museums in the Asia-Pacific region.

The "Sewa Pakhwada" and related events underscore Modi’s enduring popularity and the BJP’s focus on public service. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari hailed Modi as the world’s most popular leader, expressing aspirations for India to become a "vishwaguru" free from terrorism and corruption under his guidance. As Modi continues his uninterrupted tenure, the second longest in India’s history, his leadership remains central to the BJP’s vision for a self-reliant nation.
