Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has issued a clarion call to the Central Government, urging immediate approval of two landmark bills passed by the state legislature that propose a 42 per cent reservation for Backward Communities (BCs) in education and local body elections. The demand was made during a spirited address after unfurling the national flag to commemorate Praja Palana Dinostavam, marking Hyderabad state’s historic merger with the Indian Union.
Reddy emphasized that the proposed reservations would empower 23,973 BC individuals by ensuring their political representation in local governance, a critical step toward achieving social justice. “We are mounting relentless pressure on the Centre to greenlight these bills,” he declared. “The BJP-led Union Government must stop obstructing Telangana’s mission to uplift marginalized communities. I demand immediate approval of the bills passed by our Legislative Assembly.”
The Chief Minister underscored that these bills are not just policy measures but a transformative push to address historical inequities faced by BCs in Telangana. By guaranteeing a 42 per cent quota, the state aims to provide equitable opportunities in education and political participation, fostering inclusive development across rural and urban areas.

In addition to his focus on social justice, Reddy addressed another pressing issue: Telangana’s water rights. He asserted that the Krishna and Godavari rivers, the lifelines of the state, are non-negotiable assets. “The state government will not compromise on Telangana’s rightful share of water from these rivers,” he stated, signaling a firm stance in ongoing inter-state water-sharing disputes.
Reddy’s address reflects Telangana’s broader vision of balancing social equity with resource protection, positioning the state as a champion of marginalized communities while safeguarding its economic and environmental interests. The Chief Minister’s call for swift Central approval has sparked renewed discussions on federal-state dynamics, with the potential to reshape Telangana’s socio-political landscape.
