Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday intensified the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) campaign for the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, asserting that the state was ready for political change. Speaking at a rally at Kotta Maidan in Palakkad, Modi said Kerala was witnessing a “different vibe,” suggesting that voters were increasingly looking beyond the traditional dominance of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF).
During his address, the Prime Minister highlighted the growing support for the NDA among youth, women, and farmers, attributing it to the commitment and sacrifices of party workers on the ground. Modi framed the alliance as an emerging alternative to Kerala’s long-standing bipolar politics, emphasizing development and governance as central to the NDA’s vision.
In a pointed critique, Modi accused both the LDF and UDF of engaging in “selfish politics” over decades, arguing that the frequent shifts in power between the two coalitions had failed to deliver meaningful transformation for ordinary citizens. He said Kerala’s potential remained largely untapped and that the state needed a fresh political direction.

Positioning the NDA as a development-focused force, Modi promised a governance model aimed at creating opportunities, fostering growth, and improving prospects for future generations. He urged citizens to embrace this new approach as a pathway to turning Kerala into a “developed state” with better infrastructure, services, and economic progress.
Modi’s visit began at the Mercy College helipad, followed by a roadshow through Palakkad town that drew large crowds of party workers and supporters. Senior BJP and NDA leaders accompanied him during the event, underscoring the campaign’s high-profile nature.
After concluding the rally in Palakkad, Modi was scheduled to depart by helicopter for Thrissur, continuing the NDA’s election outreach across the state. Analysts view the Prime Minister’s speeches as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support in Kerala by projecting the NDA as a credible alternative to the entrenched LDF-UDF political duopoly.
