Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday dismissed rumours surrounding the ‘Saheli Pink Card’ scheme, asserting that the initiative for women commuters is functioning “100 per cent” efficiently. She also accused political opponents of spreading misinformation to undermine a programme aimed at women’s empowerment.
In a post on X, Gupta criticised rival parties, taking an apparent swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and suggested that some groups were uncomfortable with initiatives benefiting women. She reiterated that the Pink Saheli Card scheme is operating smoothly and continues to provide free travel benefits across the national capital. “The Pink Saheli Card is working perfectly. It offers free rides. Just tap. Travel without worry,” she said.
Addressing specific rumours, the Chief Minister refuted claims that the card cannot be used multiple times for separate bus journeys. In a video message, she described such assertions as “false propaganda” and alleged that certain political elements were deliberately attempting to create confusion among users. “If you travel once and then board another bus, you can tap again. This claim that it won’t work is a lie,” she said.

Gupta assured women commuters that there are no restrictions on using the card for multiple trips and that the system remains fully operational. She emphasised that the scheme is designed to directly benefit women, adding that its success may be causing discomfort to those with vested interests. “The benefits are reaching women directly and not going to any private person, and that is irking some people,” she remarked.
The Chief Minister urged women not to be misled by misinformation and encouraged them to continue using the scheme confidently. She also highlighted that the process of obtaining the Pink Saheli Card is simple and accessible, making it easier for women across Delhi to avail themselves of free public transport.
The Saheli Pink Card scheme has been positioned as a key welfare initiative to enhance mobility, safety, and independence for women in Delhi. Officials say the programme continues to play an important role in promoting inclusive access to public transportation in the city.
