Three young girls were killed and four other members of the same family injured after a suspected quadcopter drone allegedly dropped explosives on a residential house in Pakistan’s Lower South Waziristan region early Sunday morning, according to reports citing local sources. The incident has triggered anger and concern among residents, who have demanded accountability and an independent investigation into the attack.

The strike reportedly targeted the home of Mohammad Gul Wazir in the Dinor subtribe area. Local accounts stated that the explosives hit the residence directly, killing three girls aged between six and 15 on the spot. The sudden explosion in the early hours of the day caused widespread panic in the area, with nearby residents rushing to the scene to assist in rescue efforts.

Four other family members, including a woman and three young boys, were seriously injured in the blast. They were initially taken to the scene by locals before being shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana for treatment. Hospital officials confirmed that the injured were under medical observation, though the severity of their conditions was not immediately disclosed.

At the time of reporting, Pakistani authorities had not issued any official statement confirming the nature of the strike, its origin, or those responsible. The absence of official clarity has intensified frustration among local communities, who have criticised what they describe as repeated incidents of unexplained aerial attacks and a lack of transparency from authorities in addressing civilian casualties.

Residents of the area have called for a thorough and independent inquiry, urging the government to identify those responsible and prevent further incidents. Community members say they have been living under persistent fear due to similar alleged drone-related incidents reported in parts of Birmal tehsil, including Azam Warsak, Guldona Ghundai, Karmazi, Staff and Kalotai, where past attacks have also reportedly resulted in civilian deaths.

The latest incident has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in parts of Pakistan’s tribal regions, where residents continue to report unexplained violence and aerial strikes. As investigations remain pending, the affected community is mourning the loss of young lives while demanding greater protection, accountability and transparency from the authorities responsible for maintaining security in the region.
