The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has urged Ayodhya police to take action over allegations made by several Opposition leaders regarding the alleged theft of donations linked to the Ram Temple, calling for a formal inquiry and demanding accountability if the claims are found to be unsubstantiated. The organisation has also asked that the leaders involved be summoned to substantiate their statements made in public and on social media.
In a letter addressed to the Ayodhya Deputy Superintendent of Police, who is also the investigating officer in the matter, VHP international president Alok Kumar stated that prominent political figures, including Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, had made serious allegations involving large-scale financial irregularities. He argued that such claims, if not backed by evidence, could mislead the public and potentially disturb social harmony.
According to Kumar, some of the allegations include claims of irregularities involving amounts exceeding ₹20,000 crore. He said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had raised concerns over whether junior employees alone could have been responsible for switching off CCTV cameras and allegedly manipulating offerings worth thousands of crores, suggesting possible involvement of influential individuals. He also referred to Arvind Kejriwal’s statements alleging that around ₹200 crore in cash, along with valuables such as Lord Ram’s garland, charan padukas and diamonds, had been stolen.

The VHP’s letter further cited remarks allegedly made by Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav and AAP MP Sanjay Singh, who also spoke about suspected irregularities in temple donations. Kumar said Yadav had described the matter as a ₹20,000-crore scam and suggested that the issue could involve not just lower-level staff but also powerful individuals. He stressed that such statements, if made without verification, warranted scrutiny by law enforcement authorities.
The organisation has requested that the police examine whether the allegations amount to misinformation or deliberate attempts to create public unrest. It has also demanded action against those responsible if the claims are found to be false, arguing that public figures must exercise caution when making statements that could affect religious sentiments and social cohesion. The VHP said that unverified allegations about temple finances could lead to “hatred, ill will and enmity” in society.
At present, the Ayodhya police have not issued an official response to the VHP’s letter or indicated whether any summons will be issued to the leaders named. The allegations surrounding alleged irregularities in Ram Temple donations continue to draw political attention, with Opposition leaders maintaining their demand for transparency and accountability in the management of funds. The controversy has added a new layer of political tension in Uttar Pradesh, with competing narratives emerging over the handling of religious institution finances.
While the VHP has called for strict legal action against unverified accusations, Opposition parties continue to insist that their concerns relate to transparency and oversight rather than political motivation. As the matter develops, authorities are expected to review the complaints and determine whether any legal provisions have been violated. The issue remains sensitive due to its religious and political dimensions, and any official action is likely to be closely watched by both political observers and the public.
