Security arrangements at the Red Fort have been significantly strengthened ahead of Independence Day celebrations, with authorities deploying a multi-layered anti-terror security plan and more than 1,000 CCTV cameras equipped with artificial intelligence-based video analytics. The measures are aimed at ensuring a secure environment for the celebrations while allowing visitors and other attendees to move through the area with minimum inconvenience. A senior police officer said security agencies have put extensive arrangements in place around the historic monument and adjoining areas. The deployment includes a large network of surveillance cameras designed to provide continuous monitoring of the area.
AI-based video analytics will assist security personnel in identifying unusual activity and monitoring movements as part of the overall surveillance system. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said the arrangements were prepared in view of incidents reported in the national capital last year. He said the focus was on maintaining security while ensuring that people attending the Independence Day celebrations face as little inconvenience as possible. The security plan involves coordination between police and other agencies responsible for managing the event. Security agencies have also conducted mock drills ahead of the celebrations.
The exercises are intended to test preparedness and ensure that personnel from different agencies can respond effectively to potential emergencies. Such drills also allow authorities to identify gaps in coordination and refine response procedures before large crowds gather at the Red Fort. Advance liaison has been carried out with various stakeholders as part of the preparations. Coordination among security agencies, local authorities and other departments is considered important for managing the large number of people expected in and around the venue. The arrangements cover surveillance, access control, crowd management and emergency response.

The Red Fort is the focal point of India's Independence Day celebrations, with the Prime Minister traditionally addressing the nation from the historic monument. The event draws officials, invited guests, security personnel and members of the public to the area, requiring extensive arrangements to manage both security and movement. The deployment of more than 1,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras adds a technology-driven layer to the security system. Continuous video monitoring can help security personnel track activity across multiple locations, while analytical tools can assist in identifying patterns or incidents requiring attention.
The surveillance network is being integrated into the broader security framework rather than being used as a standalone measure. The preparations come alongside restrictions on vehicular movement around the Red Fort. Delhi Traffic Police has announced road closures and diversions for August 15 to facilitate security arrangements and the movement of authorised vehicles. These measures are intended to reduce congestion and maintain controlled access to areas surrounding the venue during the celebrations. Authorities have also been working on coordination and contingency planning in the days leading up to the event.
Mock exercises and communication between agencies are designed to ensure that emergency responses can be activated quickly if required. Officials have emphasised that the objective is to combine heightened security with arrangements that minimise disruption for people attending or travelling through the area. With Independence Day celebrations approaching, the Red Fort and surrounding parts of central and north Delhi remain under heightened security. The multi-layered deployment, extensive CCTV network, AI-assisted surveillance, mock drills and inter-agency coordination form part of the preparations to ensure that the national event is conducted safely and smoothly.
