Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has decided to scale down his official motorcade as part of a broader fuel conservation initiative, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for reduced consumption of petrol and diesel amid global energy pressures.According to official sources, the state government will implement a series of fuel-saving measures in the interest of the nation, with strict instructions issued to ensure compliance across departments.
The move is aimed at promoting austerity in government functioning while also responding to rising concerns over fuel usage. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held on Monday, where Chief Minister Yadav urged ministers to encourage the use of public transport and reduce dependence on official vehicles. He emphasised the need for administrative restraint and efficiency, aligning state-level actions with the Centre’s call for energy conservation.
As part of the revised protocol, the chief minister’s convoy will now consist of only eight vehicles instead of the earlier 13. The government has also decided to discontinue vehicle rallies during official tours to further reduce fuel consumption and avoid unnecessary logistical expenditure. In addition, ministers have been directed to minimise the number of vehicles used during travel. Newly appointed office-bearers of state corporations and boards have also been instructed to assume charge in a simple manner without organising large motorcade processions or rallies.

The state administration has further appealed to officials and public representatives to adopt similar measures in their daily routines, including limiting the use of private vehicles and opting for public transport wherever feasible. Authorities said these steps are intended to set an example of responsible resource usage at a time when global fuel markets remain volatile. The initiative reflects a broader push by governments to encourage energy efficiency and reduce fuel dependency, particularly in the context of fluctuating global oil prices and increasing pressure on domestic energy systems.
