Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has sparked a citywide debate after praising Bengaluru’s recent infrastructure improvements. In a post on social media platform X, Shaw commended the leadership of Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, crediting him for cleaner footpaths and smoother asphalt roads across the city.
“We are finally seeing visible change in cleaner foot paths and asphalt roads across the city. DK Shivakumar, your leadership has been key in rescuing our city from collapsing under the weight of garbage debris and potholes,” Shaw wrote, urging officials and citizens alike to work together for a better Bengaluru.
However, her optimistic remarks quickly drew mixed reactions online. Many residents of Bengaluru countered her claim by sharing photos of neglected roads and garbage dumps, questioning whether the improvements she mentioned were visible across the city or limited to select areas.

Users posted images from multiple neighbourhoods such as HSR Layout, Varthur-Gunjur Road, AECS Layout, Singasandra, and Jagadish Nagar, showing overflowing trash and damaged roads. “Cleaner footpath? This is HSR, the cradle of all startups… you can hardly walk here,” one resident commented, attaching a photo of litter-strewn roads.
While a section of citizens agreed that the government’s developmental work has picked up momentum in recent months, they also stressed that significant problems remain. “The next step should be clearing construction debris and beautifying footpaths,” a user suggested. The exchange has become the latest example of how civic progress in India’s tech capital continues to divide opinion — often depending on which part of the city one calls home.
