The Karnataka unit of the Indian National Congress is set to hold a high-level brainstorming session in Bengaluru on Sunday evening to discuss concerns surrounding the ongoing SIR process and to frame both political and legal responses. The meeting comes at a time when the party is attempting to balance participation in the exercise while also addressing its perceived electoral and administrative implications.
The closed-door meeting will take place at 4 p.m. in a private resort on the outskirts of Bengaluru and will be attended by top state and central leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, and AICC leader Randeep Surjewala. The gathering is expected to include a wide cross-section of party representatives, ranging from ministers and MLAs to former legislators, MPs, and district-level office-bearers.
According to party sources, the primary agenda will focus on assessing the SIR process and its potential political and electoral impact in the state. Leaders are expected to deliberate on ground-level concerns and review how the exercise could influence voter data verification and booth-level organisation ahead of future elections. The discussions are also likely to touch upon coordination between senior leadership and grassroots workers.

The Congress leadership is reportedly inclined towards a cautious approach, choosing to cooperate with the process while closely monitoring its implementation. Party insiders suggest that the leadership believes outright opposition or non-cooperation may not be politically beneficial, and instead aims to remain engaged while raising concerns through institutional and legal channels where necessary.
As part of its broader strategy, the party is expected to focus on strengthening booth-level structures through BLA1 and BLA2 members, who will play a key role in monitoring voter-related procedures. Plans may also include setting up local-level camps and conducting door-to-door verification exercises in coordination with Booth Level Officers. Senior leaders are expected to issue final directions later in the evening, outlining the party’s organisational roadmap for the upcoming phase of the SIR process scheduled to begin in June.
