The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Mumbai, Thane, and several adjoining districts of Maharashtra for May 15, warning of a sharp rise in temperatures across isolated pockets of the region amid continuing dry weather conditions. According to the forecast, Mumbai and Thane are expected to experience dry and hot conditions on May 13 and May 14 before heatwave conditions set in on May 15. Meteorologists have indicated that humidity levels across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region are already high, which is likely to intensify discomfort as temperatures rise further in the coming days.
The alert also covers nearby districts such as Palghar and Raigad, where similar heatwave conditions are expected to develop on May 15. In Raigad, the heatwave spell may persist for an additional day, extending into May 16, while Mumbai is currently expected to remain under heatwave conditions primarily for a single day, depending on evolving weather patterns.
In other parts of Maharashtra, the IMD has predicted varying weather activity, with Pune and Nashik likely to experience heatwave conditions earlier, particularly on May 13 and May 14, before returning to dry weather thereafter. Coastal Konkan districts including Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg may receive light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers during the same period, though isolated heatwave pockets could still emerge later in the week.

Meanwhile, districts in Vidarbha are expected to witness more volatile weather conditions. Areas such as Akola, Amravati, and Wardha may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph on May 13. After the thunderstorm activity subsides, these regions are likely to transition into a heatwave phase from May 14 onwards, marking a sharp shift in weather patterns across the state.
