An 18-year-old NEET aspirant, Akanksha Chaturvedi, originally from Maganiya village in Mauganj district of Madhya Pradesh, was found dead by suicide in Nagpur, Maharashtra, amid reports that she was under severe emotional distress linked to alleged irregularities and claims of a paper leak connected to the medical entrance examination. The incident has raised fresh concerns over the mental pressure faced by competitive exam aspirants in India.
According to available information, Akanksha was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) at a coaching institute in Nagpur. She was discovered hanging in her room on May 20. While initial details remained limited, the case gained wider attention after a handwritten note reportedly written by her surfaced days later, shedding light on her mental state and academic stress.
In the note, Akanksha expressed deep emotional exhaustion and fear of attempting the exam again. She reportedly wrote to her parents, acknowledging their hopes and sacrifices while stating that she no longer had the courage to reappear for NEET. She mentioned that although she had been performing well in her first attempt, she felt mentally broken due to the ongoing uncertainty and pressure surrounding the examination process.

Family members later revealed the financial strain behind her educational journey, stating that nearly ₹3 lakh had been borrowed through a Kisan Credit Card loan, along with additional financial assistance from relatives, to support her coaching and preparation. The incident has once again highlighted the intense academic pressure, financial burden, and mental health challenges faced by students preparing for highly competitive national-level entrance examinations.
