Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a nearly week-long visit to France and Slovakia from June 13 to 18, with discussions on defence and security cooperation, trade, technology, energy security, and issues affecting the Global South expected to dominate the agenda. The visit will see Modi participate in the G7 Summit while also holding a series of bilateral engagements aimed at strengthening India’s ties with key European partners.

The tour comes at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty, with ongoing tensions in West Asia and broader global economic challenges influencing international diplomatic priorities. Modi will begin the trip in the French port city of Nice, where he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with French leaders alongside attending summit-related engagements. India has increasingly deepened its strategic partnership with France in recent years, particularly in areas such as defence cooperation, maritime security, space collaboration, and advanced technologies.

A major focus of the discussions is expected to be the impact of the West Asia conflict on global energy markets and supply chains. With energy security emerging as a critical concern for many economies, leaders are likely to exchange views on ensuring stable supplies and mitigating disruptions caused by regional instability.
