A social media post comparing coconut water prices across Indian cities has triggered a debate over the cost of everyday essentials in Bengaluru. Entrepreneur Paritsh Sharrma shared his experience on X, claiming that coconut water costs considerably more in Bengaluru than in Delhi-NCR and Pune. His post linked the price difference to the city’s broader cost of living, suggesting that residents may have become accustomed to paying more for basic goods and services.
Sharrma said coconut water was available for around ₹60 in Delhi-NCR and between ₹50 and ₹70 in Pune. In contrast, he claimed that he paid approximately ₹100 to ₹120 for the same drink in Bengaluru. He questioned the difference, particularly because Bengaluru is geographically closer to coastal regions where coconuts are grown. The entrepreneur said the experience made him feel that residents were being overcharged because higher prices for rent, transportation, food and other necessities had become normalised.
The post quickly attracted reactions from social media users, with some people sharing their own experiences of coconut water prices in different parts of the country. One user said coconut water costs around ₹60 in Coimbatore, while another described varying prices during a journey from Bengaluru towards Puducherry. These responses highlighted how prices can differ significantly depending on the location, seller and circumstances in which the coconut water is purchased.

However, several users disputed the claim that Bengaluru consistently charges ₹100 to ₹120 for coconut water. One person from South Delhi said the actual price in their area was around ₹80, suggesting that the difference between the cities may not always be as large as claimed. Another user said coconut water could be purchased for ₹70 to ₹80 in Bengaluru’s Marathahalli area, questioning where the founder had bought his drink.
The discussion has also added to ongoing online conversations about Bengaluru’s high cost of living. The city has frequently been the subject of social media posts about expensive housing, commuting costs, food and other everyday expenses. However, coconut water prices can vary based on factors such as neighbourhood, vendor, size and quality, making individual experiences difficult to use as a definitive comparison across entire cities.
The claims in the viral discussion have not been independently verified, and the prices mentioned are based on individual experiences shared on social media. While the post has sparked questions about Bengaluru’s prices, the reactions also show that coconut water costs differ considerably even within the same city. The debate ultimately reflects a broader conversation around affordability in Bengaluru, rather than establishing a uniform price difference between the city and other parts of India.
