Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday reviewed the development, printing, and distribution process of NCERT textbooks for Classes 1 to 8, with special emphasis on Class 9 materials. The review meeting focused on ensuring timely availability of updated textbooks across schools and strengthening the implementation pipeline of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) framework.
During the review, Pradhan instructed officials to expedite the printing and distribution process so that textbooks reach the market without delay. He also assessed the progress of curriculum development for Classes 10, 11, and 12, directing that timelines for higher classes be clearly defined and strictly adhered to in order to avoid disruptions in the academic cycle.
Reiterating the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the minister said the revised NCERT textbooks are expected to play a foundational role in shaping students’ preparation for higher education. He stressed that the new learning material should encourage higher-order thinking skills and move beyond rote learning to a more conceptual and analytical approach.

Pradhan further underlined that the content of the textbooks must be designed with a focus on imagination, foresight, and evidence-based learning. He added that ethical values, skill orientation, and stronger integration with India’s cultural and intellectual heritage should remain central to the curriculum design process.
He also noted that the textbooks should reflect contemporary scientific, historical, and social developments while remaining adaptable to future challenges. According to him, education content must be dynamic enough to stay relevant in rapidly evolving academic and professional environments, aligning with long-term national education goals.
