Dense fog blanketed the national capital and much of Northern India on Saturday morning, leading to the cancellation of over 100 flights at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Airport officials reported that at least 66 arriving flights and 63 departures were scrapped due to severely reduced visibility. Low-visibility procedures were activated to manage remaining operations safely.
The India Meteorological Department recorded visibility at IGI Airport at around 500 metres by 11 a.m., with shallow to moderate fog persisting through the morning hours. The IMD forecast a partly cloudy sky for the day, with shallow fog expected at many places and moderate fog at isolated locations until the forenoon. Similar conditions are likely to continue into the night and early morning hours in the coming days.
The Airports Authority of India issued an advisory warning that fog across northern India could cause delays or disruptions at several airports. Passengers were urged to contact their airlines for real-time updates and allow extra time for travel and check-in formalities. Dedicated facilitation teams were deployed at affected airports to assist travellers.

Major domestic carrier IndiGo released a separate advisory, highlighting potential disruptions to flights to and from Delhi, Ranchi, Jammu, and Hindon due to poor weather. The airline emphasised close monitoring of conditions and recommended passengers check flight status regularly.
Flight operations at other regional airports, including Jaisalmer, were also impacted, with authorities directing airlines to adhere strictly to passenger facilitation and safety protocols. The persistent winter fog has become a recurring challenge for air travel in the region during December.
