Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to visit India to attend the 16th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisors (NSAs) and High Representatives on National Security, which will be held from June 22 to 23. The visit comes at the invitation of India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and is expected to be part of broader multilateral discussions under India’s BRICS chairmanship.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi will participate in the high-level security dialogue as part of engagements involving BRICS member countries. The meeting is aimed at strengthening coordination on global and regional security issues, counterterrorism efforts, and strategic stability among participating nations.
India currently holds the BRICS chair for 2026 under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The framework reflects New Delhi’s emphasis on a people-centric and development-oriented approach to multilateral cooperation, which was also highlighted during the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 2025.

Recent diplomatic exchanges between India and China have shown cautious engagement within multilateral platforms. Earlier this year, Chinese officials participated in BRICS-related meetings in India, where both sides discussed global geopolitical developments and the future direction of the grouping. These interactions indicate continued dialogue despite broader bilateral complexities.
India’s hosting of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting earlier also underscored differing views among member countries on certain international issues, particularly concerning West Asia and the Middle East. While consensus-building remains a challenge, the platform continues to serve as an important forum for dialogue among emerging economies.
The upcoming NSAs meeting is expected to bring together senior security officials from BRICS nations to discuss shared concerns and explore areas of cooperation. Wang Yi’s visit highlights the ongoing diplomatic engagement between India and China within multilateral frameworks, even as both countries continue to navigate a complex bilateral relationship.
