A pall of grief has descended over the BITS Pilani Goa campus after a 20-year-old student, Kushagra Jain, was found dead in his locked hostel room on Saturday morning, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances of his untimely demise.
According to a senior police official, Jain, a third-year student of Economics and Computer Science and a native of Uttar Pradesh, was discovered lying unresponsive on his bed in a sideward sleeping position at the Vasco campus in South Goa district around 11:00 AM. The room had been locked from the inside, and after he failed to respond to knocks or calls, campus authorities broke open the door and alerted emergency services.
Jain had reportedly played table tennis on campus the night before and appeared to be in normal spirits, according to student testimonies recorded by police. A case of unnatural death has been registered at Verna police station, and the body has been sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

In an official statement, BITS Pilani expressed deep sorrow over the incident Kushagra Jain, a third-year student of Economics and Computer Science, was found in an unresponsive state on his bed when his room was opened at around 11 AM. The medical team confirmed that he had passed away in his sleep.
The institute added that they are fully cooperating with the authorities in the ongoing investigation.The loss of a young life is an irreparable tragedy. The entire campus community is deeply shocked and grieved. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kushagra's family, friends, and all affected by this sudden loss.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns about student mental health and well-being in academic institutions, although officials await medical reports to rule out any foul play or underlying health issues.
