The Jammu and Kashmir administration has ordered the closure of all schools and colleges across the Kashmir Division until March 7 amid ongoing security restrictions. The decision was taken in response to the prevailing situation following protests that erupted after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, in joint U.S.-Israel strikes.
Minister for Education Sakeena Itoo confirmed the closure, stating that it was a precautionary measure and that the government is closely monitoring developments before deciding on reopening. She also posted on X that all educational institutions in the Kashmir Division would remain closed through the weekend.
The restrictions, initially imposed on Monday after protests broke out on Sunday, are aimed at preventing further unrest. While most areas remain under tight security, some Shia-dominated regions witnessed peaceful protests. Senior police and paramilitary officials continue to review the law-and-order situation, including in a separate meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday.

The school closures come at a time when institutions up to Class 8 were scheduled to reopen after a winter break lasting over two months. In addition, the University of Kashmir has postponed all examinations scheduled for March 4. The Assistant Controller of Examinations (Conduct) issued the notice, stating that new dates for the exams will be announced separately.
Students have been advised to stay updated through official university channels for further announcements regarding the revised schedule. The government has urged citizens to remain cautious and comply with restrictions as authorities maintain heightened security measures across parts of north Kashmir.
The decision reflects the administration’s precautionary approach amid regional tensions and ongoing public concerns, ensuring that educational activities are temporarily suspended while authorities manage the security situation.
