United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their interaction on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Evian, describing him in unusually effusive terms while contrasting their personalities during a working lunch attended by global leaders.
During the exchange, Trump remarked that unlike him, Prime Minister Modi remains “calm, cool and a total killer,” adding that he himself does not possess the same composure. The comment, made in a light-hearted tone, drew attention from those present as the two leaders prepared for bilateral discussions focused on global economic and security issues.
The meeting between Trump and Modi took place during the G7 Summit outreach session, where leaders from G7 nations, partner countries, and international institutions such as the World Bank and the African Development Bank gathered for discussions on global cooperation. The interaction included a brief handshake and exchange of greetings before the formal working sessions began.

Both leaders are expected to hold detailed talks covering a wide range of issues, including economic growth, supply chain resilience, artificial intelligence, investment partnerships, and broader geopolitical challenges. The engagement comes amid ongoing efforts by both countries to strengthen strategic and economic ties.
Earlier in the summit, the two leaders had also met briefly during an outreach session titled “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity.” Their interaction included a short conversation before joining other world leaders for discussions on global priorities.
In a separate message earlier this month, Trump had also congratulated Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving Prime Minister, calling him a “great” leader and a “strong, healthy, and wise man” with continued prospects for success. The remarks reflect a continued public rapport between the two leaders as India and the United States navigate evolving cooperation on trade, technology, and security issues.
