The Enforcement Directorate (ED) visited the residence of a Bengaluru man on Thursday to investigate potential violations of foreign exchange regulations after he claimed to have imported a dog worth Rs 50 crore.
The claim, which went viral on social media, was later debunked as a hoax, with sources confirming the man lacked the means to afford such an expensive pet.
The man had boasted on social media about importing the “world’s most expensive” dog, allegedly a crossbreed of a Caucasian Shepherd and Wolf.

The sensational claim, accompanied by widely circulated images of the dog, caught the attention of the ED, prompting officials to verify its authenticity. Upon visiting the man’s home, the agency discovered the claim was fabricated, likely for social media clout. Sources revealed that the dog in question belonged to a neighbor and was valued at less than Rs 1 lakh.
ED officials, acting on open-source information, conducted the visit to ascertain if any Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violations had occurred. However, no formal probe has been initiated, as the claims were deemed baseless.
The incident underscores the growing trend of exaggerated social media stunts, with authorities stepping in to curb potential misinformation or financial misrepresentation. The ED’s swift action highlights its vigilance in addressing suspicious claims that gain public traction.
